What is Quitline?

Quitline is an extremely effective telephone support and counselling service that increases a smoker’s chance of quitting successfully.

The service is free to use, and is the cost of a local call. Quitline is available from 8:00 am to 8:00 pm Monday to Friday by calling 13 7848.

What goes on in a usual call?

Quit Specialists understand that quitting is a complex process and that most people will have a number of attempts at quitting before they quit for good.

A typical first call to Quitline takes around 10 to 20 minutes, although follow up calls are generally much shorter. The call will cover:

  • The individual’s smoking history
  • Reasons for quitting
  • An understanding of smoking based on nicotine addiction
  • The stress side of smoking
  • Developing a plan for quitting that suits the individual

Quit Specialists can also give advice about the different quitting methods and products.
